New Line Art: Snap Trap

Updated: Mar 12

Hello! Liz here! In honor of iREAD’s 2026 Summer Reading Program, Plant a Seed, Read, I have created a new creature for our collection!

Snap Trap is loosely based on real life carnivorous plants like the Venus Fly Trap. I also took a lot of inspiration from the mean, green Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors. I tried to keep the plant fun, cute, and maybe just a little creepy.

This is my first set of lineart for Reading Dragons and Friends!

I always thought Mallory's art style was better suited to what we need, and I never really had the confidence to give it a shot before. But this community inspired me! We have so many different creatures now - from Sprites to Gnomes to creatures I had never even heard of. We only have this great collection because people - librarians as well as artists - have been brave enough to share their creations with the rest of us. Thank you for inspiring me to share my design! And, if you have an idea, go for it! We'd love to see it!

Snap Trap will be added to the master list of all creatures HERE so you can make your own, and my example cards should be live soon.

Have fun creating your new plants!

Such a fun concept! I have noticed with our library's tournaments that, especially with unique cards like this, the kids sometimes have a hard time figuring out the age/stage of their cards to determine if they tied or not. I would love to add an age indicator of some sort to their cards in the future, but am concerned about violating copyright. Is an age indicator something that Reading Dragons could add in the future?
