Terms of Use

We have updated our Terms of Use to clarify some of the questions we have been getting, and made one big change to hopefully address some confusion that has been cropping up. The Terms of Use are below, I will address the big change in a separate post. It requires pictures.

Terms of Use

  • Keep the Program Free! Do not charge participants to participate. Do not sell files / cards. Fundraising is allowed. You may use the blank line art as well as designs colored by your library to create fundraising items like shirts and buttons, etc. You may use art submitted by others where Fundraising permission is explicitly granted in the terms of use section for that card.

  • Attribution 1. Use the Reading Dragons Logo on marketing materials like posters trackers and social media. (This will affect programs moving forward. If you are in the middle of your dragon season, we do not expect you to remake your posters, trackers, or social media posts.)

  • Attribution 2. Do not remove the logo / name of the library that designed/colored the card from the bottom of the card. You may also include your logo on the card above or beside the maker's logo. (Moving forward we are changing how makers are represented on the cards. This will not affect existing cards. I will be addressing this tomorrow in a separate post). Example

  • Respect the Original Artists and Their Rights 1. Libraries have been collaborating with local artists to create special artwork. These artists may have special Terms of Use for their artwork, like not altering their art, recoloring their unique line art, or not using their art on items other than the cards.

  • Respect the Original Artists and Their Rights 2. The same respect should be given to library staff creating cards. If you find a card design online that a library has chosen not to share with the group, please do not use it. It is perfectly fine for libraries to create cards exclusive to their library. We are grateful to each of you who chooses to share their cards with the group.

  • Be Careful of Creating and Using Designs based on popular characters. Fan art is super tricky. I am not a lawyer, so I will leave this to your discretion. While dressing up mythical creatures as popular characters is not a direct representation of those characters I recommend not using them for fundraising, or posting them on social media.

As usual you can send Mallory an email if you have any questions.
