We are heading into summer and summer reading. The Reading Dragons is collaborating with the iRead Summer Reading Program and the magical artist Carey Pietsch to bring a special bite size edition of the Reading Dragons to you!

The theme this year is Level Up at Your Library! Focusing on play through games of all kinds. iRead has partnered with illustrators Ruth Chan, Carey Pietsch, Oge Mora, and Vanessa Brantley Newton to create fun and adorable art to promote your summer reading program.
Carey Pietsch has put in extra work to create some magnificent dragon cards. She is so creative and talented. Here is a preview of the dragons from the reading tracker checklist. My personal favorite is the Luna Moth Dragon. Check out the cute and cozy cocoon!

The iRead Summer Reading Program has a great lineup of activities and crafts catering to the theme Level Up at Your Library stuffed into their program guide. I love all of the cool RPG resources. I wish I were a kid again. One of the great things about the iRead program is that you can use the provided resources whenever you want, not just for Summer 2025.
If you have the iRead resource guide, you can find the printable cards, reading tracker and instructions under Programming PDFs -> 02 Program Development PDFs.
There is a webinar Liz and I did with Carey Pietsch and Becca Boland of iRead that you can watch with detailed information about this edition of the Reading Dragons and what makes it so special. You also get to learn about Carey's art process, and the impact libraries have had on her life. I cannot stress enough what a kind and creative person she is and how incredible it is that she created art for the Reading Dragons.
The cards will be made available to the general Reading Dragons community after the summer reading program is over, but I would like to encourage you to support iRead and the fantastic work they do on their summer reading programs.
